Realignment of Ky Football Classes

Posted Monday, August 23, 2010 by Mike Mardis

After the conclusion of the current 2010 football season, all Kentucky high school football teams will be re-aligned into new classes.   All teams will be placed into their new division for a four year period, beginning in the fall of 2011.

What effect will this have on Scott?  The schedule will be drastically different than what we have seen the last three years.  Covington Catholic, Holmes, Highlands, and Dixie all could be heading to different classes.  If current projections hold up Scott could be in the same district as Conner, Grant County, and another team.  All future schedules are 'up in the air' until the KHSAA finalizes the re-alignment.

KHSAA will be hammering out the details in the next few months and there should be some official resolution before the end of the year.  The current projections are based on enrollment figures for the past two years.  There is still a possibility that some teams could attempt to move up to other districts for geographical reasons to keep from long traveling or to keep intact long standing rivalries.  Highlands and Cov Cath both moved up from 3A and 4A to 5A in 2007 for these reasons.

I am going to keep running all news and articles on this subject and update it as information become available.

Ryan Ernst has a great story on the subject as well as the projected class structure:
